Steel turns from "liquid" to "bill" - Do you know the key equipment in the continuous casting machine?
In the modern steel production process, there is a key link that determines the quality, output and efficiency of the billet, that is continuous casting (continuous steel casting).
So, how does the continuous casting machine turn the hot molten steel into a solid billet? What “hard-core” equipment is silently working behind the scenes? Today, we will take you to explore the “core equipment” in the steelmaking production line.

1.Tundish: The “transportation hub” of molten steel
Before the molten steel flows from the ladle to the crystallizer, the tundish plays the role of diversion, buffering and purification. It ensures that the molten steel is evenly distributed and prevents inclusions from directly entering the forming area. It is the first “gatekeeper” to ensure the purity of the billet shell.
2.Crystallizer: The “incubation chamber” of the billet
This is the most core part of the continuous casting machine, where the molten steel begins to solidify rapidly to form a preliminary billet shell. The crystallizer is usually made of copper alloy, and the inner wall is equipped with an efficient cooling system. It is also equipped with a vibration device to prevent the billet from sticking to the crystallizer and avoid steel leakage accidents.

3.Vibration device: the subtle “vibration art”
The vibration of the crystallizer is not random, but is precisely controlled according to a specific frequency and amplitude. This technology can significantly reduce the friction between the billet shell and the crystallizer wall, improve the surface quality of the billet shell, and increase the pulling speed.
4.Secondary cooling zone: the “cooling channel” of the billet
After the billet leaves the crystallizer, it is only “half-cooked”. At this time, it needs to be finely controlled by the water spray cooling system for secondary cooling. Nozzle layout, flow control and cooling uniformity are all key factors to ensure the internal quality of the billet.
5.Pulling and straightening machine: an integrated system of deformation and export
The pulling and straightening machine pulls the continuously formed billet out of the crystallizer at a constant speed and straightens it in the curved section to ensure that the billet structure is continuous and the size is standard. The equipment needs to operate stably for a long time under high temperature and high load conditions, which is a severe test of mechanical precision and durability.

6.Hydraulic shears and sizing system: efficient and accurate “segmentation masters”
The last process is to cut the continuous casting billet into the required length. The hydraulic shear device has extremely high requirements for shear force, rhythm and positioning system, and is an important part of achieving full process automation.

Each continuous casting machine is an integration of high-end mechanical manufacturing, automatic control and metallurgical processes. It carries the “finishing touch” from molten steel to billet, affecting the product quality and economic benefits of the entire steel production line.
